How to Accurately Measure your Bra Size
|
| |
|
Many women are wearing bras that are too small or too large. While this is an issue for all bra styles, it s becomes an even bigger problem when wearing a strapless bra. Strapless bras that are too tight are prone to cutting off circulation and making you feel pinched, while those that are too large may fall down at inopportune times. When shopping for bras, allow the lingerie specialist to help you. However, here is what you need to know when buying a bra. When measuring yourself, wear either no bra, or a plain one that has no padding. Remember, the best strapless bra will look great and feel good. A Backless strapless bras provide a more secure fit, and you can choose a padded strapless bra to help fill out strapless dresses. Whether you choose a longline strapless bra, or a wonderbra strapless bra, these guidelines can help you find the perfect fit.
Band Size
The band size is the numbered portion of the bra size. This is the area of your chest directly underneath your breasts.
When measuring, stand tall and straight for accuracy.
Wrap the tape measure around your torso, keeping the tape measure parallel to the floor.
Hold it directly under your bust, then blow out, emptying the air from your lungs.
Take your measurement
Fractional numbers should be rounded up or down to the nearest whole number.
If the measurement is even, add 4 to the number. Odd measurements will add 5 .
Cup Size
This is the lettered part of the bra size. The measurement is taken at the fullest part of the breast.
Stand straight and tall for accuracy.
Measure at the fullest part of the breast, keeping the tape parallel with the ground.
The tape should be firm against the breasts, but should not be overly tight.
All fractional measurements should be rounded up or down to the nearest whole number.
Calculations
The band measurement will be subtracted from the cup size to determine the actual bra size. The original band measurement as determined above is the numbered part, and the corresponding cup size is the lettered part. The cup sizes are as follows.
0 -1/2 AA
1 -1 - A
2 - B
3 - C
4 - D
5 - DD or E
Here are some examples to help you.
A woman measures under her breasts at 32 . 32+4 = 36 . The busts measures at 40 . 40-36 = 4 . The 4 difference requires a D cup, so this woman would wear a 36D.
Another woman measures her bust at 34 . 34 +4 =38 . The actual busts is measured at 41 inches. This is rounded up to 42 . 42 -38 =4 . This woman would require a 38D.
This measuring system is becomes less accurate once the cup sizes go above a D. Women with larger busts should see their lingerie specialist for assistance in proper sizing.
You are now prepared to purchase bras that fit right and feel great. Remember, when you find a strapless bra that looks magnificent and feels great, buy more than one. Then you ll be prepared to enjoy wearing all the latest and hottest fashions, including those that bare shoulders and back.
